Employee engagement has changed enormously during recent years. Employer has to be able to keep its employees motivated in order to keep them in the company. Nowadays talented employees will constantly search for other career opportunities if they feel like they are not satisfied with the current one. Globalization has enabled people to look various job markets elsewhere and the competition between various field is huge. This also means that companies are becoming more multinational than ever before. Employers have difficult task to attract new workers to join the company because they have to consider possible cultural differences and how to react to these. Other important thing is to arrange appropriate training and working tools so that employees will learn how to use them daily in the organization. With right tools and knowledge how to use them employees get the feeling that they know what they are doing and that raises the engagement for the company (Hay Group, 2014.) The employer ...

Total Rewards

Image
This blogpost I am going to evaluate what is the employee rewarding and which parts it consists. First of all, a salary or other monetary compensation is very important motivator for the workers that the get from their work performance. This includes three elements which are base compensation; meaning fixed pay that the worker gets on a regular basis for example salary. The second element is pay incentives which are some kinds of a program that reward employees for the good performance, like bonuses in every six month or so. The last element is benefits that holds health insurance, vacation, lunch benefit etc. This is also important part for the employees and might motivate them to keep longer in the company if the benefits are good. Every company has their own compensation plan, and they have to design it carefully by taking into consideration for example do they highlight more non-monetary or monetary rewards. Some of the employees value more the non-monetary rewards, like heal...

As an employee we have different types of rights that are based on the law. This is very good to recognize and keep in mind if having any mistreatment at your workplace. There are three categories which concerns employee itself. First statutory rights and this for example includes safe work conditions that everyone is entitled to. Secondly contractual rights, meaning that you should have your employment contract achievable, and employee can always appeal to the contract if employer i.e., tries to expand your duties at work without any extra allowance. Last category is including all other rights that employees should have, like privacy for instance (Mejia Gomez, 2016.)   Of course, employers also have their rights and by them they are trying to secure the businesses. One example that comes to my mind is probation for the employment. With this method employers ensure that they get to know these new hires in detailed before the permanent job contract starts. After that it is ve...

Performance Management

Image
For the companies who want to evolve their employee’s efficiency, they have to motivate employees to the higher performance. This is called performance management and it is divided with three different levels: appraisal of the performance identification, measurement and management of human performance in the company. These steps help the organization to focus on the future and make their staff to be more successful in their daily work. It is very important for the managers who are making these evaluations to try to avoid for example any biases or influence of liking someone more than the others (Mejia Gomez, 2016.)   Usually, bigger companies have some kind of action plans or manuals which includes instructions to follow. I have personally experienced also this new technique which will track your performance at work. It was an app which collected data from your colleagues and from customers and then once a year when we met with my supervisor, we went through the “results”. G...

Learning & Development

After getting hired for the company that you have applied for, there comes important phase for the new employees. They have to start learning how to do their job and employer is responsible for its implementation. Good training program enrichens person’s skills which are needed for the job and they become professionals and their performance is profitable for the whole organization. I recently changed company and I had very comprehensive training which included all the main phases. Firstly, we familiarized ourselves to this company’s processes and we had a lot of virtual courses that we needed to pass. This was part of assessment phase. Second part was familiarizing and adapting to the work itself. Lastly it was time of the evaluation and usually this part helps people to see how far they have become. It is also beneficial for the organization because they invest lot of money for trainings. By evaluating it companies may notice some unnecessary things where they can save th...

Recruitment & Selection

Nowadays companies have lot to do in order to hire an adequate and good candidate that they are looking for. Usually, people don’t even know how much effort there is involved to whole recruitment process. As mentioned in the coursebook well prepared and up to date Human resource planning is crucial for organizations. With that companies are able to deliver their services in the future without any loss regarding that they wouldn’t have enough employees for the job. (Meija Gomez, 2016) Recruitment process, (including selection) is the key point where everything can go as planned or in opposite direction. It will show later on for the company’s financial figures if they have hired wrong people. Employees who don’t have enough motivation or input are only bringing costs for the company but not outcomes that they are expecting. Even though organization would have made right choices with applicants their job is not done. They have to create feeling for the new employees that they are w...
