HR Strategy & Planning + Ethics

This blogpost I am focusing on what is HR strategy and which components are involved there.

Companies need to consider and invest their HR strategy enough so that it will work and give good impression for the applicants so that they feel like it would be nice to be part of that organization. Challenges which HR department and managers are facing fall into three different categories: environmental, organizational and individual challenges. Environmental challenges mean rapid changes like workforce diversity, globalization, skill shortages and usage of Internet. Organizational challenges in the other hand mean how companies manage rise of outsourcing, technology development and restructuring in their company. Individual challenges centralize how well employees will fit to organization’s needs, how well individuals meet companies’ productivity requirements as well as how companies deal with issues of job insecurities (Mejia Gomez, 2016.)

That’s why it is crucial for companies to be aware of all challenges mentioned above so that they are able to plan their HR structure effectively. I experienced a very poorly HR process for this one small company a few years ago. First it seemed very promising, and I was excited to apply for this company. Everything went well at the beginning but after my last interview the manager promised to inform in one week time whether they are going to choose me or not. After that week I didn’t hear anything, and I sent an email about asking what the situation was. Manager didn’t reply anything, then I tried to call and ask again but the situation was the same: no answer. Another week pass and still nothing, it was very disrespectful not to even send an email what happened. In the end I decided that I don’t want to work for this kind of company if they don’t hold on their own deadlines and don’t even bother to inform anything.

This shows that first contacts with the new company make a huge impact what your impression are and how they promote themselves. Even though small companies may not have an HR department, they should have at least outsourced one or hired one skilled professional to do the job (Advisory HQ, 2019.)

Ethics is more and more valuable and respected feature for everyone nowadays and people want to do ethically right choices. Companies also use this as a marketing their products to be ethically produced and that they are sustainable. Although there are still a lot of black holes and this BBC article shows that big fashion companies use child labor. This case it might be that Marks & Spencer didn’t honestly know as they said that one of their logistic partner use children for making clothes for them. In this case this company should have done better research about this logistic partner that they used. There are always risks like this when outsourcing to cheaper countries which is very unfortunate (BBC News, 2016.)
